Hypnobirthing for childbirth in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Hypnobirthing is a form of hypnotherapy in which hypnosis is used to help you with childbirth and the transition to parenthood.

Hypnotherapy can help you to reduce pain, limit the use of medications, and ultimately, have a more positive birthing experience.

Therapy sessions for childbirth are available from my clinic in Chiang Mai, Thailand or online.

What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a natural and empowering approach to childbirth that focuses on teaching expectant mothers various techniques, such as hypnosis, self-hypnosis, deep relaxation, visualisation, and breathing exercises, to achieve a more comfortable and controlled labour experience.

When should I begin hypnotherapy sessions for childbirth?

Ideally, I work with pregnant women for help with childbirth using hypnosis over a period of 3 to 6 months before the due date. This allows for the development of self-hypnosis skills and the depth of trance needed for effective pain control. It is also possible to work over a shorter time with a focus on more specific triggers of anxiety related to the birthing process.

Creating a unique therapy plan for you

Therapy begins with counselling, leading to a clear picture of your ideas (current self-hypnosis) about childbirth itself. It is essential to gain a clear perspective on negative triggers, associations, and predisposing fears and phobias around childbirth, before we help you to heal them with hypnotherapy.

Establishing safety and rapport

The first step in hypnosis therapy for childbirth is establishing safety. Rapport must be built between us as you are educated about hypnosis, and fears are released through emotional education.

You will be taught how to enter hypnosis and how to practice self-hypnosis. Inner work begins with creating a place of power and safety in your mind that you can go to at any time you choose – even during childbirth!

Building confidence in the body and mind

Your body has inherent wisdom and knows how to give birth safely and comfortably, as has been done by hundreds of thousands of women before. In fact, being pregnant is not a sickness!

Training in self-hypnosis skills is important for developing confidence in yourself, the wisdom of your body and the power of your mind.

The mind can control every muscle in the body. The mind can also create, or heal, fear. When fear is present, your muscles will contract and childbirth will be more painful.

Relaxation in every moment of childbirth - and the option to consciously create relaxation at well - is the primary therapeutic resource to train so that you can give birth comfortably and naturally.

It is also important to heal triggers of anxiety, in order to maximise relaxation during childbirth and to help you to have the most positive overall birthing experience.

Developing an inner relationship with the unborn child

As a pregnant mother, in our sessions you will develop in relationship with the child growing inside you. You will be taught how to communicate internally and encouraged to practice this in self-hypnosis.

Visualisation and breath work practices will grow the bond between you, with a particular focus on love and the life journey in front of you.

Creating a vision for birth and the transition to motherhood

One part of the hypnobirthing process is to create a template vision in your subconscious mind for the process of childbirth itself.

From there, the next step is to create a clear vision of motherhood and what it means to you to step into the next chapter of your life.

Pain management for childbirth with hypnosis

You will be trained in pain management self-hypnosis techniques. Pain itself is relative, and while most people can learn how to reduce its intensity significantly with hypnosis, some people can even learn how to turn off pain completely.

Pain management integrates self hypnosis, relaxation processes, reframing, visualisation, and breath work. Reducing fear is of prime importance because fear leads to anxiety, which fuels the perception of pain.

Overcoming negative hypnosis around childbirth

Many women have been negatively hypnotised by other people around childbirth itself. Since childhood, they have heard traumatic stories, and many women have even been told by their own mothers how difficult childbirth was!

A core factor influencing any experience is the belief itself of what it will be. Pain is a perceptual experience that can be significantly reduced by removing negative ideas that other people have suggested to your subconscious mind since your own childhood.

Developing trust for a comfortable childbirth experience

In order to redce the sensations associated with childbirth, it is necessary to develop trust. You must trust your body, your mind, your partner, your doctor or midwife - and life itself.

Therapy for childbirth with hypnosis will help you to build trust from the inside, allowing you to feel confident in your ability to induce the parasympathetic nervous system response (relaxation) at will.

As the subconscious mind is always responding to "the story that we tell ourselves," common negative language associated with childbirth is replaced with positive associations and triggers.
